As the closing of the year approaches, Scottsboro City Mayor Jim McCamy had a few updates and a Christmas greeting for all of Scottsboro on Thursday, December 8, 2022.
\n\u201cFirst I would like to wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,\u201d Mayor McCamy stated. \u201cThis has been a very busy year. There is a lot we have accomplished, and there\u2019s even more that we haven\u2019t, so we will keep moving in that direction.\u201d<\/p>\n
Last month Whataburger broke ground at their location on Highway 72 in Scottsboro. As the construction is well under way, the eating establishment should be completed in April-May and should be opening in the Spring.<\/p>\n
The County Park Road\/Highway 72\/ATRIP project is also underway.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe signal at Whataburger and High Country Toyota will probably be in the last phase and the last part that\u2019s completed,\u201d stated the Mayor. \u201cAgain, I ask you all for continued patience for our progress. These are growing pains. To grow, we have to get there, so I do ask for everyone\u2019s patience. It should help quite a bit.\u201d<\/p>\n
The permanent signals for the Shops of Scottsboro development went active on Wednesday, December 7th, and the temporary lights were removed.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, December 6, 2022, the Scottsboro Planning Commission approved the site plans for the new Chik-fil-A that is coming to Scottsboro. The proposed site is at the end of Micah Way just before it meets Highway 35.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is great news for Scottsboro and Jackson County,\u201d stated the Mayor. \u201cTheir construction should probably start in the March-April timeframe and finished in the fall.\u201d<\/p>\n
The new Chik-fil-A will boast 4,829 square feet with 74 seats inside, an indoor playground, and 28 patio seats outside. There will also be 79 parking spots in the lot and a double-laned drive-thru with canopies.<\/p>\n
The Planning Commission is also expecting another contender.<\/p>\n
\u201cDunkin Donuts is on the Planning Commission for January the 3rd,\u201d Mayor McCamy stated, \u201cand we\u2019re excited about that.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Mayor also stated they continue to work with the city\u2019s retail recruiter, who are keeping him up to date on the status of different possibilities that are looking at Scottsboro as a future site. He said they continue to work with the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) and continue to look for additional funding opportunities and support for Scottsboro\u2019s growth.<\/p>\n
\u201cI look forward to being able to talk about additional opportunities as soon as we can.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Mayor stated, \u201cThere are some that are really wanting to come here; it\u2019s just finding a location. So, everything continues to be booming here. We\u2019re really excited about what has taken place so far. We do have more to do, and we will be following up on all that and looking for an even better year next year.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the coming year, there are several projects related to infrastructure. Recently, the city partnered with the Scottsboro Water, Sewer and Gas Board for a project on Crawford Road from Highway 35 to Highway 72.<\/p>\n
\u201cOnce they get the water line installed, we\u2019ll go back and resurface Crawford once WSG is complete with their work, which is a much-needed project,\u201d the Mayor stated. \u201cThat project will do a couple of things: it will help with sewer and water for that whole section of Scottsboro, even out to the Industrial Park in Hollywood, as well as the safety factor on the road for all traffic. We mentioned the coming projects. We\u2019ve got Crawford Road, and there\u2019s a couple of other road projects that we\u2019ll be talking about next year. I\u2019m looking forward to it.\u201d<\/p>\n
