After serving in the Marines, he served in the United States Army National Guard of Alabama. After retiring from TVA, he later went into nursing school so he could take care of his mother. He donated a kidney to his brother and was a loving son and father. He wrote a letter to his sons that read, \u201cDear Mo and Jack, My soul is with Jesus. If you will trust and believe in Jesus, I will see you again soon.
