{"id":875,"date":"2020-02-04T13:16:38","date_gmt":"2020-02-04T19:16:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theclarion.org\/?p=875"},"modified":"2020-02-04T13:16:38","modified_gmt":"2020-02-04T19:16:38","slug":"melanie-shippey-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.theclarion.org\/?p=875","title":{"rendered":"Melanie Shippey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Melanie Elizabeth Shippey, 62 of Atlanta and formerly of Scottsboro passed away suddenly on Monday, January 27, 2020.<!--more--> A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at St. Phillips Episcopal Church, 2813 Godfrey Avenue NE, Fort Payne, Ala. 35967.<br \/>\nBorn in Homestead Fla. to Lieutenant Colonel John J. and Opal \u201cPat\u201d Shippey, Melanie spent her childhood in numerous air bases throughout the U.S. and Japan before serving in the U.S.A.F. herself as an Aeromedical Specialist and a Morse Systems Operator. She received her bachelor\u2019s in social work from Jacksonville State University and her MSW from Alabama A&amp;M University, continuing her life\u2019s purpose serving the public as a social worker for the Department of Children and Families in Alabama and Georgia.<br \/>\nFirst and foremost, Melanie was a dedicated mother to her only child, Elizabeth Leigh (Britt) Gaston. She believed in letting your dreams be bigger than your fears, standing up for yourself and fighting for those who could not fight for themselves.<br \/>\nMelanie\u2019s passions were helping others, gardening, cooking, reading and most of all, her daughter\u2019s happiness.
