The Jackson County Commission met for a regular meeting and work session on Monday, May 23, 2022. Commissioners approved the Hiring Committee\u2019s recommendations for three vacant HMT-I positions at the Public Works Department, and an amendment from the Association of County Commissioners of Alabama (ACCA) regarding investing in Alabama county programs in relation with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds and the Commission\u2019s relationship with the ACCA was approved. The amendment states the County agrees to appropriate the associated flat fee of 6% for the first funds and 4% for any funds to be received in excess. In no case will there be a fee less than 3%. The minimum fee the County will be paying is $300,000.<\/p>\n
The motion to approve and sign the contract for professional services with JMR+H for the HVAC system upgrade, design specifications and bid in the courthouse was also approved.
\n\u201cWhat this contract does, is it establishes their help in developing a bid spec. package, working in concert with us,\u201d stated Chairman Bill Nance. \u201cIt also assists us in the submission of the bids, receipt of bids, the process of source selection of the contractor and would also assist us in monitoring work of any contractor\u2019s selection to ensure they are in compliance with the bids and spec. contract package.\u201d<\/p>\n
The EMA updated the Commission about the status of installing the new storm shelter on the Skyline School campus behind the new gymnasium. As of now, they are in discussion with an architectural firm, and they should be able to make a recommendation to the Commission by the next meeting.<\/p>\n
The Commission also heard from the Council on Aging\u2019s (COA) Director, who presented some more items to be added to a list for the Pisgah Senior Center, such as treadmills, a television and some exercise equipment.<\/p>\n
