Ann Carol Dicus Kennamer, 66 of Scottsboro, passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2021. Graveside services will be announced at a later date with interment following at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
\nAnn was born in Craig, Colorado on Saturday, June 4, 1955 to George Dicus of Scottsboro and his wife, Mary Dicus of Albertville. The family moved home to Northeast Alabama when she began the first grade at Caldwell School, and she spent the remainder of her life giving back to her community.
\nA 1972 graduate of Scottsboro High, she earned a degree in education from Jacksonville State and later attended the University of Alabama for graduate school. Upon graduation, she taught school in Scottsboro for several years before going into business at the Scottsboro Ladies and Children\u2019s Shoppe on the square. She later acquired the Payne\u2019s Drug Store fountain operation and saved that local landmark from closing. She returned to education, working as the Executor Director of the IMPACT Learning Center in Scottsboro for many years. After retiring from the center she \u201cgot bored\u201d and spent her last years working with the Project Search Program in Marshall County, helping train handicapped and disabled children for the work force.
\nAnn never met a stranger, and those who knew her will miss her determination, her drive, her laughter and her devotion to her family and friends. They might also miss her cooking as Ann was a great cook. Also a devoted mother, Ann was exceptionally proud of her daughters, Georgia and Molly and her foster son, Billy. Her devotion to her children was surpassed only by her love of her grandchildren, Zanna, George and Jocelyn, all of whom made her exceptionally happy.
\nAnn was involved in many activities and organizations during her lifetime. She was a member of the Scottsboro Women\u2019s League and an active member of Scottsboro\u2019s First United Methodist Church where she served on the church council as a trustee and as an MYF counselor. She was also a longtime board member of the church\u2019s daycare. She was a Rotarian, serving as President of the Scottsboro Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
\nShe is survived by her husband, Stephen Kennamer; daughters, Georgia Boles, Molly Kennamer; grandchildren, Zanna, George and Joeclyn Boles; brother, James Dicus; \u201calmost sisters,\u201d Martha Pullen, Mary Nixon; foster son, Bill Messer; mother-in-law, Joyce Kennamer; a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Dicus; stepmother, Elizabeth Dicus; father-in-law, A.J. Kennamer.
