Scottsboro City Council President Patrick Stewart and Council member Greg Mashburn attended their final meeting in service to Scottsboro as council members on Monday, October 26, 2020. City Clerk, Whitney Phillips presented Stewart and Mashburn with commemorative plaques in recognition of their dedicated service as city council members.
\nMashburn stated, \u201cWhen I got up this morning, a thousand things ran through my mind. People don\u2019t understand how much time we spend away from our family trying to make things better for Scottsboro. I want to give the new council members some advice: don\u2019t be afraid to ask questions. If you don\u2019t ask, you\u2019ll end up with a concrete barricade on Highway 72, so don\u2019t be afraid to speak up and ask. I also have to recognize my beautiful wife, Denise, for always supporting me. I have learned that it puts as much stress on your spouse and family as it does the person serving. It has been a joy to serve the citizens, and I wish this city the best.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stewart, finishing up eight years with the council, stated, \u201cServing the past eight years, I have grown and matured a lot as a person. I couldn\u2019t have done this job without Mr. Kennamer. I remember when we had our first organizational meeting, and I got handed this gavel. You talk about clueless. I had no idea what I was doing, and if it hadn\u2019t been for his guidance and help, I wouldn\u2019t have made it through. So, thank you, Mr. Kennamer. I can\u2019t say enough about my wife and my family supporting me through all of this. I couldn\u2019t have done it without them, because if they\u2019re not in – you\u2019re not in. I can honestly say that with all the decisions I\u2019ve made over the past eight years, I was able to go home and go to sleep and not worry about those decisions or someone trying to influence any decision I made. The Heritage Center was something I wanted to see done for a long time and the storm shelters. I want to say thank you, and I enjoyed serving. I look forward to seeing where Scottsboro goes in the next few years. And with that, do I have a motion to adjourn?\u201d<\/p>\n
Main Street Director Katie Kirkland also presented the the Main Street Hero Award, stating, \u201cEvery year, all of Main Street communities nominate individuals for this award, and this year, our board president, Richi Reynolds has won. This is for all of her achievements and contributions to our organization. Richi helps me out, so much, on a daily basis. If I ever need to ask her advice for anything, she\u2019s always there as a sounding board.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reynolds was also presented with the key to city. Lastly, all the other board members of the Main Street Organization were presented with a mayoral coin in recognition of their service to the city of Scottsboro.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
