\u00a0Huntsville\u2013 The past, present and future have come together in a remarkable 15x10ft mural at Parkway Place. Local Scottsboro muralist, Sonya Clemons, created the work to reflect the rich history of Parkway Place Mall\u2019s location dating back to the original Parkway Center built in 1957. The work captures each transition the shopping destination has been through that brought Parkway Place to life in 2002. The mural is a timeline noting iconic local landmarks, beloved area restaurants and stores and historic moments in Huntsville\u2019s role in the U.S. Space Program. <\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201cThis is a full circle moment for me because I grew up going to Parkway City Mall,\u201d stated Clemons. \u201cI never would have dreamed of having art hanging in the property. These are all places I saw growing up, and this mural parallels my story in Huntsville and the story of those who grew up around me.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201cOur vision in working with Sonya to create the Pride of the Parkway was to bring joyful memories to locals who see it and help tell the story of our city and shopping destination to the families who are moving into the area,\u201d said Molly Bell, Parkway Place General Manager. \u201cThousands of daily visitors will see this work and hopefully be filled with pride for everything our region has accomplished, is working on and will become in the future.\u201d <\/p>\n
Clemons will have a print signing Saturday, August 22, 2020 from 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. in center court at Parkway Place. A donation of 50% of all sales during the signing event will be donated to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. Prints are 11×14 and $35 each. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
