Trust And Obey<\/strong>

When I was a youngster, possibly the very favorite song in our hymn book for the little fellows to try and lead was \u201cTrust And Obey.\u201d It was still so in most of my early years of working with young boys in the leadership training program. There\u2019s something about that song that touches parts of our lives that really need touching \u2013 something hopeful and reassuring to us. What a glorious thing it is to bring hope to people. The song admits that there are shadows and clouds \u2013 doubts and fears \u2013 sighs and tears in our lives, yet it thunders with the blessed hope that Jesus can drive those clouds away. \u201cBut His smile quickly drives it away.\u201d<\/p>\n

We need to view these shadows and clouds in the light of Jesus, who is the light of the world, John 8:12 (NKJV) 12 \u201cThen Jesus spoke to them again, saying, I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.\u201d He\u2019s the one who dispels these shadows, drives away these clouds, and otherwise heals our fear thoughts. We need to meditate on the true power of faith in our lives. We also need to face any serious doubts that rob us of His blessings, and of total trust in Him!!<\/p>\n

Faith is a conviction of the reality of something that we cannot see. Hebrews 11:1 (ESV) 1 \u201cNow faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.\u201d Notice the blessed assurance and the conviction that we have in the invisible God that is so loudly declared to be true by the things that can be seen (Romans 1:20-21). That\u2019s faith! It\u2019s believing that God is who He says He is. It\u2019s the inner confidence that a Christian has in his or her Creator that He can and will do all the things He said He would do.<\/p>\n

Trust is a firm belief in the reliability, truthfulness, or strength of someone or something. Trust takes things a step further. It is making the willful choice to entrust our keeping into the hands of God in full assurance that God will do what He promises. Faith comes first and is essential in order to be able to put our trust in God. Trust is the result of genuine faith that God is who He claims to be.<\/p>\n

Most of us believe in the power of God thanks to our personal experiences and through reading and studying the Bible. Putting these beliefs into action can be a true challenge for most of us. Placing our trust in God is our choice and one that we must make wholeheartedly that, no matter what, God is with us! The problem we have is in whether our faith is strong enough to so totally believe in God\u2019s Word and His power that we are enabled to let go of fear and place our Trust in Him regardless of the outcome.<\/p>\n

Paul understood these concepts and addresses them in 2 Timothy 1:12 (NKJV) 12 \u201cFor this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.\u201d Trust in the Lord was a commitment Paul was willing to make, and so must we.
\nProverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV) 5 \u201cTrust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.\u201d<\/p>\n
