Sadie Lorene Walls Selvage passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Barfield Health Care, where she resided since January of 2017. She was 86 years old. A private graveside service was held for the family at Free Home Cemetery with her nephew, Rev. Larry Walls officiating.
\nSadie was born on Monday, August 28, 1933 in the Swearengin community of Marshall County, the daughter of Bert and Amanda Walls. They later bought a farm at Grant and built a home. The house is still there, located next to Porky\u2019s BBQ. Later, when Sadie\u2019s brothers went into the military and couldn\u2019t help farm, they sold the farm and moved to Huntsville in 1951. Her parents passed away in the 1980\u2019s.
\nShe and Minzo C. \u201cM.C.\u201d Selvage were married in 1949 and joined New Home Church of God in 1950. He was a well driller for 66 years and passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2018. They were married for 69 years. Sadie worked at several places, including Elmore\u2019s, Weaver\u2019s and Hammers in Guntersville. She played piano for New Home Church, and many years ago, she went with the church quartet to sing at funerals and singings. She also taught Sunday school classes.
\nShe and Minzo loved going to the Smoky Mountains each year on their anniversary. Their last trip there was with family, and they all had a good time, especially the grandchildren, who she loved dearly.
\nSadie is survived by her daughters, Debra (Joe) Wood, Teresa (John) Hunter, Sharon (Michael) Pendergrass; granddaughters, Amy (Rob) Vermillion, Morgan Pendergrass, Madison Pendergrass; grandson, Lucas Pendergrass; great-grandson, Noah Vermillion; several step-grandchildren; brother, Houston Walls.
\nShe was preceded in death by her husband, Minzo C. Selvage; parents, Bert and Amanda Walls; sister, Bessie Troup; brothers, Authur, Herman and Chester Walls; special nephew, Rev. O\u2019Neal Walls.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
